What are PADI Specialities?

A PADI Speciality course teaches the diver specific the knowledge and skills required to safely to dive in a specific environment. Divers may also enrol in speciality courses if the diver has a particular underwater interest such as digital underwater photography.

What does a PADI Speciality course consist of?

Depending on the Speciality chosen. Divers will complete between 2 and 4 open water dives conducted in the environment they wish be certified in. During most specialities there will also be a manual with knowledge reviews to complete. Some courses such as enriched air nitrox also have a multiple choice final exam

As part of the PADI Advanced open course you complete a deep dive and navigation dive. These dives can then be credited towards the appropriate speciality course.

Who Can Participate?

Any diver can enrol in a PADI Speciality course. Depending on the course there will be specific prerequisites and minimum age requirement.

Deep Diver:

Padi deep diver certification course cyprus This course qualifies the diver to a maximum depth of 40M. During the course you will learn the techniques required to dive at greater depths including use of an independent air source, SMB deployment, navigation at depth, and carrying out tests underwater to check for gas narcosis.
To participate in the PADI Deep diver course you must be qualified as a PADI Advanced open water diver and be at 15 years old. You will complete a minimum of 3 open water dives prior to certification as a PADI Deep diver

Wreck Diver:

Padi speciality certification Wreck Diver in CyprusThis course qualifies the diver to make penetration dives on a wreck in similar or better conditions to which they have learnt in. During the course the diver will learn techniques for mapping and identifying hazards on a wreck, lying lines both on the outside and on the inside of wrecks, and simulating silt out scenarios. To participate in the PADI Wreck diver course you must be qualified as a PADI Advanced open water diver and be at 15 years old. You will complete a minimum of 3 open water dives prior to certification as a PADI Wreck diver

Enriched Air Diver:

Padi Enriched air Nitrox diver certificate cyprusDuring the PADI Enriched air diver course. The Diver will learn the theory to safely plan and execute divers to their current qualification using a enriched air mixtures up to 40%. The theory will include how to determine the maximum depth they can dive using a given mix to avoid problems with oxygen toxicity. The benefits and drawbacks of nitrox diving as well as dive planning either dive tables or a nitrox dive computer, and how to analyse the contents of their cylinder. To participate in the PADI Nitrox course you need to be at least an open water diver and be at least 12 years old. Survival Dive Stop also recommends for the diver to complete the optional dives on nitrox as part of the course.

Peak performance buoyancy:

Padi Peak Performance Buoncy certification course cyprusAs all divers know perfecting buoyancy is the most important skill we can master. However being able to hover in mid water like a fish doesn't come without practice. During the PPB course the diver will develop their buoyancy skills and learn different techniques for streamlining equipment, weight distribution and finning techniques. To participate in the PADI PPB speciality you need to be a open water diver and at least 10 years old. The diver will complete two dives during the course practising on how to improve ans develop their buoyancy and positioning in the water.

Navigation Speciality:

Padi Underwater Navigation Certification Cyprus Are you becoming lost, stressed and confused about which direction you need to go underwater? If so then enrol on the PADI navigation course. During the course the diver will complete 3 dives learning techniques for easily navigating underwater both with and with out using a compass. Your instructor will teach you how to use natural navigation as well as different techniques for compass use. To participate in navigation speciality you need to be a open water diver and at least 10 years old

Night Diver Speciality:

Padi night diver certification course cyprusNight diving can be one of the most peaceful and relaxing ways to dive with many species of marine life be nocturnal diving after the sun goes down is a great way to have the chance to interact with this marine life. During the PADI night diver course you will complete 3 dives covering the skills and knowledge required to safely dive at night. Your instructor will teach you using a compass at night, how to deal with dive light failure. As well as discussing recommended safety precautions to follow. To participate in the night diver speciality you need to be a open water diver and at least 12 years old.

Underwater Photographer:

Padi speciality course Underwater photographer CyprusAre you becoming lost, stressed and confused about which direction you need to go underwater? If so, enrol on the PADI underwater navigation speciality. During the underwater navigator speciality you will complete a minimum of 3 dives in Protaras.  During the course your instructor will teach you both traditional compass navigation techniques, as well as time, and distance navigation. You will also train various natural navigation techniques. Natural navigation is a key skill to be able to successfully navigate underwater.

Search & Recovery course:

Padi Speciality Course: Search and Recovery in CyprusThe PADI Search and Recovery course consists of 4 dives. If you have completed an search and recovery diver as part of your advanced open water course this can be credited towards to speciality. During the course your instructor will teach you both the theoretical knowledge and paratactical skills required to safely undertake recovery of small objects. You will learn and practice a variety of search patterns, both with and with out the use of a compass. Practice securing lift bags to various objects, using both knots and clips. Your instructor will also have the student lift various objects from the seabed, the student will swim with the object whilst maintaining neutral buoyancy as well as lifting an object to the surface.
